The complete assembly of the basic processing unit can be seen above. This shows the primary mixer in the top l.h.corner elevated on a concrete plinth, with the larger secondary, slow mixing receiving tank below. The slip is pumped from the large receiving tank utilising a simple double diaphragm pump (this being powered by a basic air compressor) and into the closed filterpress at a pressure of around 80 p.s.i. The filterpress supplies approximately 200 kg of plastic clay per cycle, each cycle takes 1.5 hours, and all the water which was previously lost by evaporation is reclaimed. Therefore in one shift nearly one tonne of high quality plastic clay can be produced. This is equal to around three weeks production from the old 'sun drying' method.
