The primary mixer was tested, and the correct values of water and raw materials were calculated to ensure optimum dispersion of the clay in suspension. The old concrete storage tanks were utilised to hold large stocks of the clean clay slip. The slip was passed through a simple grading system constructed to basic ceramic principles, using an 80's stainless steel mesh as the final sieve.

The filterpress was assembled and all pipes and air connections were tested. The small compressor unit used to power the simple double diaphragm pump was serviced and connected in line. The unit was piped into the slip supply and the filterpressing (de -watering) of the slip commenced.
