A plan was drawn up to construct a basic clay preparation facility. This would enable the wet mixing and then sieving of the main base clay, together with the facility to add the other ceramic ingredients (silica, feldspar etc.) and then to de-water the mix using a simple filterpress.

Some of the existing facilities were utilised and the construction of a plinth to support the main mixer (blunger) was erected. This enabled the use of gravity and minimised the introduction of pumping and transfer systems.
